Scott Zona's professional background is both botany (plant taxonomy, specializing in palms) and horticulture. He grew up in southern Florida, among palms and pines, but spent some time in southern California while in graduate school at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. He gardens in Miami, where he is growing as many Salvia species as he can fit in his garden. He also grows orchids, palms, bamboos and a lots of plants for hummingbirds. He also enjoys reading, writing, making presentations about plants, and listening to podcasts from the BBC. He loves taking photographs, although my "style" reflects his long habit of taking photos for use in teaching plant taxonomy; hence, I tend to focus on diagnostic details of plants, rather than overall habit. Recently, he has become more interested in garden design, and he enjoys visiting gardens and seeing how plants are used.
