Photo of Brassica Chirimen Hakarashi (chinese cabbage lettuce oriental

Brassica juncea Chirimen Hakarashi - Winter variety native to Japan. This is a popular and particularly tasty Japanese winter curl leaved mustard lettuce. The round stalk of this variety grows curly, light green round crispy leaves that are serrated on the edges. The leaves grow spicier and hotter as the plant matures. Very popular and particularly tasty. Round stem with crispy leaves curling around the edges. More spicy when ripe. Young leaves are wonderfully spicy through the lettuce or on bread and, when grown larger, it is a wonderfully tasty wok vegetable. This is the most hardy Asian leaf cabbage and can be harvested in spite of the frost. Family: Brassicaceae
