Photo of Hemerocallis August Flame (Daylily)

Hemerocallis August Flame - (Woods 1968)  - From mid-July through August, the 3-4' tall flower stalks are topped with clusters of large rumpet-shaped, bright flaming red flowers, each centered with a dramatic yellow-orange blotch and blooms quite late in the season. It has a yellow streak in the center of each petal and a yellow throat. The flowers are 5” in diameter on top of tall foliage.. Because of its height and late season of flowering, it is an excellent daylily for the perennial border. Each flower lasts only one day, but there are multiple buds on each stalk and there are several stalks on each plant. The buds open in series, so a single plant will may continue to bloom for 2 weeks or more. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its grassy leaves remain green in color throughout the season. Typical of daylilies, it is easy to grow and does well in full sun to part shade. Family : Liliaceae
